A few of our favourite places to explore, eat, wander and wonder, all just beyond our gate.
We feel incredibly lucky to call this pocket of Dorset home, and even luckier to share it with our guests. From The Rove, you’re perfectly placed to explore the best of Dorset’s countryside and coast: from wild coastline and golden cliffs, to lively market towns and secret woodlands, everything is just a stone’s throw from your yurt or cabin.
A Few of Our Favourite Spots
Bridport:
This market town is full of life, from its indie shops to its friendly cafes and buzzing Saturday markets. It’s the kind of place where you’ll stumble across an amazing bakery, vintage treasure or pop-up gig when you least expect it.
West Bay:
Just down the road, West Bay’s dramatic cliffs and beaches are as striking as they look on TV. Pack your walking boots for a stomp along the coast path, or just grab a coffee and watch the world go by.
Eggardon Hill:
For the best views in Dorset, hike up Eggardon Hill. The climb is worth every step, with miles of rolling countryside and a real sense of space.
Charmouth & Lyme Regis:
Fossil hunters and rock-poolers, this is your mecca. Both beaches are family favourites, brilliant for big days out and those Jurassic Coast wow moments.
Walks We Love
Eype to Seatown: Rugged cliff-top scenery with a pint at the Anchor Inn as your reward. (1.5 miles each way, 1.5 hours, moderate)
Cogden to West Bexington: A gentler stroll along the Jurassic Coast, perfect for soaking up sea air. (1.5 miles each way, 1–1.5 hours)
Seatown to Golden Cap & Langdon Hill: Conquer Dorset’s highest point and be rewarded with spectacular views. (4.1 miles circular, 2.5 hours, moderate)
Lewesden Hill: A short, challenging route through woodland and lanes, with panoramic vistas at the top. (1.5 miles, 1 hour, moderate)
Eggardon Hill: Rolling farmland and Iron Age history. The trail can be muddy, but the scenery makes up for it. (2.5 miles, 1.25 hours, moderate)
Food & Drink
If you’re after a good meal or just the perfect post-walk pint, you’re spoilt for choice. Here are some of our tried-and-tested favourites:
The Half Moon, Melplash: Our local — a proper pub just a 10-minute walk from the farm.
Marquis of Lorne, Nettlecombe: Quintessential country pub vibes, with a great children’s play area (a rare find!).
The Pymore Inn, Bridport: Unfussy, friendly and always a good spot for lunch.
Dorshi, Bridport: Asian-inspired, locally sourced and always buzzing (book ahead!).
Rise, West Bay: Relaxed riverside setting, great for brunch or sundowners.
The Hive Beach Café, Burton Bradstock: Famous for seafood right on the beach.
The Anchor Inn, Seatown: Beer garden with wild sea views (and excellent local ale).
The Alexandra Hotel, Lyme Regis: Our top tip for a cream tea with a view.
Rock Fish, Lyme Regis: Fresh seafood, unbeatable location.
Crab House Café, Weymouth: Oysters, crab and lobster overlooking Chesil Beach. Holiday mood guaranteed.
Beaches
Charmouth: Sandy stretches, rock pools and fossils galore.
Hive Beach: Big skies and room to spread out, perfect for picnics.
Lyme Regis: Sandy, shingly, pebbly (and don’t miss the rock pools at Church Cliff).
West Bay: Dramatic cliffs on one side, classic swim spots on the other.
Seatown: Sheltered, peaceful and always feels a little wild.
